Iran, UK discuss dual national's case: FM Spox

Tehran, Dec 11, IRNA – Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Monday that the case of British-Iranian Nazanin Zaghari, who has been arrested over security charges, was among the issues discussed in a meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs Mohammad Javad Zarif and British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson.

Foreign Minister Zarif is following up Zaghari's case with the Iranian Judiciary officials based on humanitarian reasons, Qasemi said.

Johnson's visit to Tehran was preplanned and made upon the official invitation of Zarif. There were several issues on the agenda of the meetings, he added.

Zaghari who has dual nationality is considered an Iranian national and should serve her prison conviction according to the judicial system of Iran, said the spokesman.

On Dec 9, Johnson conferred with Zarif on commitments of all parties in dealing with sound implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and expansion of economic, banking and commercial cooperation between the two countries.

In their meeting, the two sides examined various topics such as expansion of economic, banking cooperation along with regional developments mainly the commitments of all parties in dealing with the JCPOA.

Britain believes that the JCOPA is of prime importance and underlined his country's commitment for implementation of the treaty, British foreign secretary said.

He also called for the expansion of cooperation and relations between the two countries.
