Ancient crock fished out from Caspian Sea

Rasht, Dec 10, IRNA – A crock dating back to the 6th or 7th century AD was found in the southwestern coast of the Caspian Sea, said an authority of Gilan Province Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization of Iran on Sunday.

Fishers, from a village on the coast of the Caspian Sea, fished out a crock that got stuck in their net, said Vali Jahani.

He added that the buff pottery crock has a handle, but is partly covered with sea deposits including sea shells. The shape and color of the crock shows that it belongs to the late Sassanid or early Islamic era.

He also said that more research would be done on the newly found piece.
