Palestine official blames Trump's Quds move on Arab passivity

Beirut, Dec 9, IRNA – The weak and passive policies adopted by Arab countries against Zionist aggressive policies in recent years, have largely contributed to Trump's decision on recognizing the holy Quds as the Zionist regime's capital, a Palestinian official said.

'Several factors contributed to the decision by US President Donald Trump and his move to recognize Beit ul-Muqaddas (Jerusalem) as the capital of the Zionist regime and one of them is the passive and weak policies adopted by the Arab governments,' Abu Imad Al Rifai, a senior member of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) during a recent interview in Beirut.

'Over the past recent years, the Arab governments have failed to assume a powerful stance against the Zionist regime and to address the regime's continuous aggressions against the al Aqsa Mosque,' Al Rifai said.

'They have turned a blind eye on such aggressions,' he added.

The representative of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Lebanon went on to say that tensions across Arab countries also helped the United States and Israel to marginalize the Palestinian issue.

'With the Palestinian issue marginalized, they had more room to go ahead with such decision and recognize the holy Quds as the Zionist regime capital,' Al Rifai said.

'Establishing covert relations with Tel Aviv by some Arab nations was also responsible for Trump's decision,' he said.

'Particularly, some of the Persian Gulf Arab littoral states, through setting up covert ties with Israel, and in a way, normalizing relations with the regime, again encouraged Trump to make such a decision,' he stressed.

More, Al Rifai said, the warm welcome given to Trump by some Arab governments and an array of agreements signed during his stay in the region convinced Washington that to stay in power they are ready to bow to the US.

'Today, there are some powerful Arab countries that are promoting terrorism and spreading the seeds of sedition,' he said.

'What they are doing is in line with protecting security of the Zionist regime and guaranteeing its hegemony in the region,' he added.
