Supreme Leader extends congratulations on weightlifting team's victory

Tehran, Dec 6, IRNA – Supreme Leader of Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei has extended a congratulation message on the championship of Iran's national weightlifting team in the world championship competitions in the US.

Ayatollah Khamenei also thanked young Iranian wrestling champion and member of Iran's national Omid wrestling team for his invaluable efforts.

'I thank the champion team in the world weightlifting competitions which have made Iranian nation happy; I am also sincerely thankful of Mr. Ali-Reza Karimi, our country's prosperous champion, who has turned the symbol of Iranians' dignity,' read the message.

The 2017 IWF World Weightlifting Championships were held in Anaheim, California from November 27 to December 5.

Kianoush Rostami in 85 kg with a silver medal, Sohrab Moradi with three gold medals in 94 km, Ayyoub Mousavi with two bronzes in 94 kg, Ali Hashemi with two golds and one bronze in 105 kg, Behdad Salimi with one silver and one bronze and Ali Hosseini with two silver medals and one bronze helped Iran stand on the first podium of the Championships.

Iran's adult team of weightlifters had previously gained two best team titles, one in France 2011 with 495 points came the third, and then in 2013 in Poland scored 442 and ranked the third.
