Quake in north of Iran leaves 4 injured

Rasht, Dec 6, IRNA – Four people have been injured in an earthquake measuring 4.8 magnitude which struck Gilan Province in the north of Iran on Tuesday afternoon.

Head of Gilan Medical Sciences and Medical Treatment University’s Public Relations Department Tal’at Kaviani told IRNA a man in the city of Roudsar received a blow on the head and is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital.

Two men and one woman received outpatient treatment in the hospital due to blows to their legs or arms, as the tremor hit Langroud, she said.

Meanwhile, Managing director of Gilan Red Crescent Society Mehdi Valipour told IRNA on Tuesday that the quake did not cause serious damage to life or properties in the two towns of Langroud and Lahijan in the east of Gilan.

He further noted that the quake occurred at a long depth and low intensity, causing no serious damage.

Gilan province is one of the areas in Iran prone to earthquakes with most of its cities located on fault lines.

According to the Seismological Center of the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred at 18:17 hours local time (14:47 GMT) at longitude of 50.14 and latitude of 37.26 and in the depth of 23 kilometers.
