Al-Qaeda ringleader killed in Afghanistan

Kabul, Dec 5, IRNA – Ringleader of Al-Qaeda terrorist group Omar Khatab also known as Omar Mansoor was killed during an operation in Afghanistan, Afghanistan National Directorate of Security announced on Tuesday.

“Afghan and foreign forces in special operations in Ghazni, Zabul and Paktia cities in the east of Afghanistan killed Omar Masnoor and 80 members of his forces,” Afghanistan national security office said .

During the operations, 27 members of Al-Qaeda were arrested and five important bases were destroyed, the statement added.

Since its establishment in 1988, the Al Qaeda has mounted attacks on civilian and military targets in various countries. After the death of its founder, Osama bin Laden, in 2011, the group has been led by the Egyptian Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Over 20 terrorist groups, including al Qaeda, are active in Afghanistan making money through smuggling narcotics.
