Border guard martyred in NW Iran

Orumiyeh, Dec 5, IRNA – An Iranian border guard was killed and three others were injured in an armed clash with terrorists in Maku city in West Azarbaijan Province, northwestern Iran, Maku governor said.

The border guards together with water organization experts were investigating the border drainage basin, Shahin Alizadeh told IRNA on Tuesday.

In the wake of the deadly accident, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu called his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif to say that the shootout incident in the two countries' border is being investigated and the results will be declared to the Iranian officials soon.

Cavusoglu also blamed PKK terrorists for the attack, expressing condolences over death of the Iranian border guard, Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said on Monday evening.

Meanwhile, Turkish interior minister ensured Iran’s ambassador to the country that the issue is being followed up seriously.

Qasemi also said that Foreign Ministry is engaged in looking into the issue to find out the elements behind the incident.
