Media in Pakistan widely cover inauguration of Chabahar Port first phase

Islamabad, Dec 4, IRNA - Media in Pakistan in their reports have given wide coverage to the opening of the first phase of Shahid Beheshti Port in the southeastern city of Chabahar.

Leading news daily ‘Dawn’ reported that Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has inaugurated the first phase of the country's strategic Chahbahar Port.

“The first phase of the project, known as the Shahid Beheshti Port, is being seen as a reinforcement of mutual and regional cooperation between Iran and India,” it said.

‘Express Tribune’ said Iranian president inaugurates first phase of Chahbahar Port. It added while inaugurating the port, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that Middle Eastern countries should solve their problems together without relying on external powers.

Located in southern province of Sistan-Baluchestan, the launch of phase I Shahaid Beheshti Port was attended by at least 60 representatives from 17 countries including India and Afghanistan.

Daily ‘The News” reported Iran has inaugurated a new port at Chabahar in the southeast which will be a major new trade hub linking India and Africa with Central Asia.

'Through this port, goods will be delivered to neighboring countries at cheaper prices and in a shorter time,' President Hassan Rouhani said at the port.

It said a day earlier, India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Iranian counterpart Javed Zarif, held a meeting in Tehran to review the implementation of the Chabahar Port project.

Daily ‘The Nation’ in its story said that Iran has inaugurated the long-awaited new port at Chabahar which will be a major new trade hub linking India and Africa with Central Asia.

It said the project was first conceived in 2003 and has so far cost around $1 billion, with India providing $235 million of the financing.

Daily ‘Business Recorder’ in its headline said Iran inaugurates new Indian Ocean port. “Through this port, goods will be delivered to neighboring countries at cheaper prices and in a shorter time,” President Hassan Rouhani said at the port.

‘Daily Times’ said Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Sunday that Middle Eastern countries should solve their problems together without relying on external powers.

“We believe that if there is a problem in the region, it can be solved through dialogue,” President Rouhani said in a speech at the opening of a port in the southeastern city of Chabahar.
