President Rouhani in Chabahar to open Chabahar port

Tehran, Dec 3, IRNA - Iran's President Hassan Rouhani has arrived in Iran's southeastern Province, Sistan-Baluchestan to inaugurate Phase I of Chabahar port at Oman Sea on Sunday.

Deputy Governor of Sistan-Baluchestan Ayyoub Darvishi told Islamic Repubic News Agency (IRNA) that the president will open the first phase of Shahid Beheshti Port in Chabahar during a ceremony that will be attended by local and foreign guests.

The port will be capable to carry out all portal operations of container terminals, and its annual 8.5 million tons capacity for loading and unloading ships will be increased to 15 million tons when its dry port is complete, he said.

Darvishi who is also Governor of Chabahar said that the proximity of Chabahar and Konarak to the Indian Ocean will bring Iran the development of the eastern parts of Iran and will revive employment due to the development projects that are under construction.

Chabahar Port enjoying special potential capacities, lies on transit developement plans, and as the linking bridge to the Central Asian countries and Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is under the spotlight of the countries in the region, he added.

President Rouhani, as the head of a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Sistan region to the north of Sistan-Baluchestan Province on Saturday.

Ministers of Energy, Interior, Agriculture-Jahad, Information and Communication Technologies as well as heads of Cultural Heritage Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, State Welfare Organization, and Deputy President for family and women's affairs are accompanying President Rouhani in his visit to the region.
