Over 10,000 killed in Iran road accidents in 7 months

Teheran, Dec 2, IRNA – More than 10,000 people have been killed in road accidents in Iran over the past seven months (Iranian calendar starting March 21, 2017) despite a 1.1-percent decline compared to similar period last year, figures show.

A report released by Iran's Legal Medicine Organization revealed on Saturday that a total of 10,155 people, including 7,944 men and 2,211 women, were killed over this period.

According to the report, the provinces of Fars with 933, Tehran with 756 and Khorasan Razavi with 732 reported deaths top the list, while Ilam, Ardebil and Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces each with 76, 110 and 113, respectively represent the lowest road-traffic fatalities in the country.

Also, during the past seven months, 210,657 road accident injuries have been reported, said the Iranian Legal Medicine Organization, showing a 0.5-percent decrease compared to the same period last year.
