Iran FM reviews issues of mutual interest with Azerbaijan president

Baku, Dec 1, IRNA – Iranian foreign minister and Azerbaijan Republic's president met on Friday on the sidelines of the 7th Ministerial Conference of the Heart of Asia Process.

Mohammad Javad Zarif and Ilham Aliyev exchanged views on latest regional and international developments and discussed issues of mutual interest.

The Heart of Asia Conference kicked off in Baku earlier on Friday with the participation of 250 high-ranking officials from 40 countries and international organizations.

Iranian foreign minister is expected to meet Azeri and Pakistani counterparts Elmar Mammadyarov and Khawaja Muhammad Asif, respectively.

Zarif arrived in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Friday morning from the Italian capital, Rome, where he addressed the Third Edition of Rome Mediterranean Dialogues.

In an address to the Heart of Asia Conference, the Iranian foreign minister called for 'resolute unified response' by the world countries to confront the threat of extremist violence and terror.

Referring to a counter-terrorism strategy which was drafted two years ago by the Heart of Asia members in Islamabad, Pakistan, Zarif said, 'We are looking forward to considering of the draft strategy by governmental experts and senior officials for adoption here, which would provide a solid foundation for our cooperation against terrorism and violent extremism.'
