Iran, Russia, Azerbaijan summit ends by a joint statement

Tehran, Nov 2, IRNA – The summit of the Iranian, Russian and Azeri presidents ended late on Wednesday in tehran by signing a joint statement.

Prior to inking the statement, President Hassan Rouhani described the Tehran Summit as a sequel to its first round which was held in the Azeri capital city in August 2016, at the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev.

During the Baku Summit, said President Rouhani, in addition to discussing major regional issues, 'We focused on three important economic issues as well including transportation and the North-South Corridor; the energy, electricity and oil and gas cooperation; and the structural developments for further economic collaboration.'

President Rouhani expressed pleasure that 'good steps' have been taken in the three fields.

Pointing to the steps taken in line with the trilateral cooperation in the field of energy, President Rouhani said that major Russian oil companies are currently engaged in talks with the Iranian sides for investment in the latter’s oil projects.

“We are also in talks with Azerbaijan's oil and gas companies on mutual cooperation, especially in the field of [oil] exploration in the Caspian Sea,” he said, noting that regionalization of the countries’ economies in the energy sector is pushing forward with an acceptable speed.

Iran also plans to enhance economic cooperation with the Eurasia soon, President Rouhani said, noting that unifying standards among the three countries and creating green customs corridor along with boosting banking cooperation and exchanges with national currencies as well as linking banking networks of the three states, and many other measures promise a bright future for Iran, Russia and Azerbaijan.

The three countries are rich in oil and gas resources, and their joint efforts can pave the way for accelerating economic growth, said the Iranian president.

He further noted that setting up a fund for joint investment in various economic arenas will multiply capabilities of the three capitals.
