Iran, Chile strong ties to prevent maneuvers of people like Trump

Isfahan, Aug 31, IRNA – Vice Speaker of the Chilean Senate Guido Girardi said that Iran-Chile strong ties will help prevent maneuvers of people such as US President Donald Trump.

In a meeting with Isfahan Governor General Rasoul Zargarpour, he added that Trump’s harsh policies have made relations between all the countries stronger.

“He is not aware what a big blow he has struck on his country and is pushing it backward,” he said.

Calling for promoting communications between Chile and Isfahan, he said that his country is seeking enhanced ties with Iran and Chilean outstanding senators specializing in communications are accompanying him in his visit to Tehran.

Referring to his meetings with Iranian officials, Girardi said, “We are seeking to remove challenges facing bilateral relations as cultural and economic relations are interlinked with political ties.”

Noting that Iran plays an active role in regional markets, he said that one of the contributors to bilateral relations is cultural paradigms.

“We are working to get the Chilean society acquainted with the Iranian realities and this is very important,” he said.

Stressing the need for holding an exhibition of Iranian culture and civilization in Chile, the official said that Chile is a new country and Isfahan’s antiquity cannot be compared with it.

Chile is seeking to promote its embassy in Iran to the level of ambassador, he said, noting that he discussed free trade with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif during his stay in Tehran.

Isfahan governor general, for his part, said that the picturesque city is home to over 20,000 natural and interesting sites and tourists from 86 countries travel to the city.

Following the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the number of tourists visiting the city has become six-fold, he said.

Noting that Iran-Chile economic, cultural and political ties have experienced ups and downs, he said that JCPOA pave the way for promoting bilateral ties.

Iranian provinces have the authority to forge strong ties with their foreign counterparts, he said, noting that Isfahan has concluded sisterhood agreement with 14 cities across the world.

It is also ready for sisterhood agreement with a corresponding city in that country, he said.

Zargarpour also voiced Isfahan’s readiness for holding cultural week in Chile.

Girardi who arrived in Tehran at the head of a delegation has so far held talks with Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani and Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on bilateral relations.
