France: No alternative to Iran's nuclear deal

Tehran, Aug 29, IRNA – French President Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday took an opposite stance to that of US President Donald Trump by saying that there is no alternative to Iran's nuclear deal, according to French media.

'There is no alternative' to the nuclear agreement with Iran, Agence France Press quoted Emmanuel Macron as saying.

Iran and the major world powers-the US and the UN Security Council permanent members plus Germany- signed the nuclear deal in 2015 known as Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). Under the agreement Iran accepted to curb its nuclear program in return of sanctions relief.

'I want to confirm France's commitment to the Vienna nuclear deal with Iran,' he added in a speech to French ambassadors, emphasizing his country's willingness to have 'constructive' relations with Iran.

Macron's remarks about France's stance on the nuclear agreement, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), are in sharp contrast with the US President Donald Trump, who has frequently slammed the report.

Trump administration as well as the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has repeatedly confirmed Iran's commitment to the JCPOA, but some US media have reported that Trump and his team are trying to show that Iran is not complying with the agreement.

Experts have warned against the consequences of politicizing or undermining the international reports, including the IAEA certification of Iran's commitment to the deal.

Former deputy director of the CIA David Cohen has recently said that politicizing the 'international open source information' by Washington would undermine the utility of such reports.
