Tehran to pursue cut of Iranian apps from Apple Store

Tehran, Aug 26, IRNA - New communication minister said on Saturday that in cooperation with the foreign minister, he will pursue the issue of removal of Iranian apps from the Apple Store.

'I had a meeting with the Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif where we talked about removal of Iranian apps from the Apple Store and we agreed to follow the case together,' New Iranian Minister for Communications Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi said in a message released in his Instagram account.

According to dispatches, on Thursday, Apple removed Snapp, a ride-hailing app similar to Uber that is popular in Iran, from its app stores. That followed the removal in recent weeks of apps for food delivery, shopping and other services.

In a message to Iranian developers whose apps were affected by the ban, Apple said, “Under the US sanctions regulations, the App Store cannot host, distribute or do business with apps or developers connected to certain US embargoed countries.”
