5 killed, 25 injured in south Afghan suicide attack

Kabul, Aug 23, IRNA – A suicide attack on Helmand region in Afghanistan n Wednesday claimed the lives of five people, leaving 25 more wounded, an Afghan official said.

A suicide attacker targeted army forces in Lashkargah, according to an official affiliated with the Helmand Governorate office.

The accident was the first suicide attack after announcement of a new strategy toward war in Afghanistan by Washington.

Most of the injured people were civilians, the official said.

According to local sources at least two police officers were also killed in the deadly attack.

No group has yet claimed responsibility of the incident.

Two months earlier, a car bomb explosion in Lashkargah left 30 people killed and many others injured.
