14th Avicenna Int'l Open Chess Tournament begins in Hamedan

Hamedan, Aug 22, IRNA – The 14th Avicenna International Open Chess Tournament began on Monday with 321 local and foreign chess plaers in Hamedan, west of Iran.

Head of Hamedan's Chess Committee Ali Babaie said that top chess players from 17 countries are competing in Groups A and B, with 66 and 255 athletes respectively in each group in the event.

Alexi Shirov from Latvia and Oleg Anatolyevich Korneev from Spaib are among the top players in the tournament, according to the official.

The 14th Avicenna Open International Chess Tournament is held on August 21- 28.
