Iran, Lebanon explore regional developments

Beirut, Aug 21, IRNA – Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs and Lebanese President Michel Aoun discussed regional developments on Monday.

Hossein Jaberi Ansari is scheduled to meet several Lebanese political and religious figures during his three-day visit to the country. The meeting with President Aoun was first on his itinerary.

The Iranian official and the Lebanese President at the presidential palace in Baabda discussed bilateral as well as regional issues.

'We held talks on boosting Tehran-Beirut ties,' Jaberi Ansari told the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) after the meeting.

Exploring regional developments, including Syria and the fight against terrorism, were among the topics discussed with President Auon, he added.

'Iran supports Lebanon's fight on terrorism and the political stability in the country,' he added.

Iran Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs arrived in Beirut on Monday morning to hold talks with several senior Lebanese political and religious officials.

During his visit, Ansari is expected to hold talks with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri, Foreign Minister Gebran Basil, as well as several senior politicians and religious leaders.
