Top commander: Military and regional issues top agenda in Turkey

Ankara, Aug 15, IRNA -- Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri said on Tuesday that the Iranian delegation is here to exchange views on military and regional issues.

After arriving in Ankara, the general held talks with his Turkish counterpart General Hulusi Akar and discussed issues related to border security and fight against terrorism.

Major General Baqeri and the accompanying delegation are in Turkey at invitation of Chief of the General Staff of Turkish Armed Forces General Akar.

General Baqeri said that Turkey is one of the important neighbors of Iran and has important position in the region and the Islamic world.

He added that for a long time such visits had not happened between the two countries, but given to the regional developments and issues related to security and border security, confrontation against terrorism, it became necessary such visit to happen.

During his 3-day visit to Turkey, Baqeri is to meet with senior Turkish military and political officials, including President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as well as Defense Minister.
