Pakistani leaders reiterate to fight against terrorism on 'Independence Day'

Islamabad, Aug 14, IRNA -- Pakistan's top political and military leaders in their messages on 71st Independence Day of the country have reiterated to fight against terrorism.

President Mamnoon Hussain in his message called for joint efforts for development and prosperity of the motherland.

He urged the need to promote love and harmony by overcoming hatred and misgivings.

In his message, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said: 'we have to strengthen and reinforce state institutions so that they can play their prescribed role within the limits of law and the constitution.'

He said only a strong economy can ensure strong defense.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said Pakistan desires positive and constructive relations with all countries and has made efforts to initiate the process of meaningful dialogue.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa in his message said terrorists would be taken to their logical end and totally flushed out from the country.

He said that Pakistan has rendered matchless sacrifices in the war against terrorism.

The army chief said that terrorists' bullets and ammunition would be finished but they would not be able to defeat the passion and love of the soldiers of Pakistan Army for the motherland.

General Qamar Javed Bajwa said we will foil the nefarious designs of anyone, who tries to cast an evil eye on Pakistan.

Many foreign guests attended the flag hoisting ceremony in Islamabad with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang attending the event as the chief guest.

Diplomats and foreign ambassadors also attended the celebrations.
