Islamabad, Aug 12, IRNA — Chairperson of Pakistan Senate committee on foreign affairs says that Islamabad highly appreciates President Hassan Rouhani’s attitude towards the security of Pakistan.

In an exclusive interview with IRNA, Senator Nuzhat Sadiq said that it is significant for Pakistan that in his meeting with Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani, President Rouhani reiterated that 'Iran regards Pakistan security as its own'.

“We are very happy on the re-election of President Hassan Rouhani because it will not only give more strength to Iran-Pakistan ties but to Pakistan also,” she said.

“Our Senate Chairman Raza Rabbani travelled to Iran to participate in the oath taking of President Rouhani. The visit shows that the two neighbors are enjoying special relationship,” she said.

Senator Nuzhat Sadiq said, 'We highly value our ties with Iran and hold our friendship with Iran in a very high esteem; we have had good brotherly relations with Iran, we are neighbors and we want good relations with Iran.'

She said Pakistan wants to develop strong economic and trade ties with Iran. She noted that if there are some small border issues between the two countries, they could be solved through dialogue very easily and already border issues have improved a lot.

“If we want to grow economically, we need to overcome all security challenges in the region and we have already made lot of progress in this regards. When President Rouhani reiterates significance of the security in the region, it is very important and quite understandable to us” said the lawmaker.

“Every Pakistani wants to have strong ties with Iran,” said the Senator.

Nuzhat Sadiq expressing her views said new Prime Minister of Pakistan Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has previously served as petroleum minister of Pakistan which means he has more grip over the energy issues of Pakistan.

“There is no doubt that we need energy. Iran has already completed its portion of Iran-Pakistan (IP) gas pipeline project, but we need to start construction on our side, I strongly believe that we should complete the project as soon as possible to cater our growing energy demands,” said the parliamentarian.
