Sargsyan: Iranians choose president with successful policy in past

Tehran, Aug 6, IRNA -- Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan congratulated President Hassan Rouhani for his reelection and reiterated that Iranians elected a president with successful policy over past years.

President Rouhani pointed to plenty of historical, cultural commonalties between the two countries, and said that the two states may take many positive steps in line with interests of both nations.

He underlined that Tehran is trying to bolster its ties with neighboring countries, including Armenia, and added that the two states have many commonalities in economic and cultural sectors as well as in the areas of transport, energy, tourism and transit.

President Rouhani underlined importance of security stability in the region and awareness on danger of terrorism, saying that when terrorists are fully defeated in Iraq and Syria, it would be possible they try to be spread all over the region, so everybody should be aware and careful of their danger, especially in the region of Caucasus and Central Asia, because it could be a dangerous problem, which may endanger the whole region, so it is necessary all countries have a close cooperation and coordination in this concern.

He pointed to Karabakh issue and emphasized that settlement of the problem has only political solution, saying that it is so important for Iran to have security around its borders.

President Rouhani expressed the hope that by efforts and initiatives of two Iran's neighbors of Armenia and Azerbaijan Republic all witness peaceful end for this conflict.

President Sargsyan expressed pleasure for being here in swearing-in ceremony and congratulated re-election of President Rouhani.

In spite of improvement and promotion of relations level between Tehran and Yerevan, still it could not reach to political level, so Armenia intends to make its economic ties more active with Iran.

He added that the two countries may increase their relations in the fields of energy, trade and transportation.
Sargsyan also underlined Armenian efforts to settle Karabakh conflict peacefully.
