Iran to back Syria till end of crisis: Senior official

Tehran, Aug 6, IRNA -- Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran Ali Shamkhani supported the Syrian-Syrian talks aimed at restoring peace in the country, and voiced Iran's support for the same.

'Iran stands by Syria and continues to support it until the end of the crisis there,' Shamkhani said in a meeting with Syrian Prime Minister Imad Khamis in Tehran on Sunday.

'Instead of fighting terrorism, some western countries and the US take some questionable measures to stabilize terrorism and insecurity in the region,' he added.

Shamkhani went to say that if they stop supporting the terrorists militarily and financially, peace will be restored soon and instead of a large group of IDPs and refugees, violence and destruction of ancient heritages, 'we could see peace and destruction of terrorism'.

He added that the use of banned weaponry in US' bombardments is an instance of genocide and human rights violation.

Khamis said that the Syrian government has always negotiated with unarmed appositions, and discussed new political and field developments and victories against Takfiri groups.

Khamis thanked Iran for its vast supports for the Syrian people and government, adding that achieving victory against terrorism relies on change of attitudes of some countries' supporting terrorism and fighting Daesh, Nusra Front, and other groups in action.
