Larijani: Oppressed Palestinian nation entitled to peace, security

Tehran, Feb 23, IRNA – Majlis (parliament) Speaker Ali Larijani said on Wednesday that peace and security are the legitimate rights of the oppressed Palestinian nation, hoping that peace would be restored to the country through immediate unity.

He made the remarks in a meeting with the Ugandan Parliament Speaker Rebecca Kadaga on the sidelines of the 6th International Conference in Support of the Palestinian Intifada (Uprising) which ended on Wednesday evening releasing a 24-point final statement.

The statement urged the necessity of putting an end to seven decades of Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.

It also stressed the need for a collective effort of all Muslim countries to defend legitimate rights of the Palestinian nation.

'Palestine and its deplorable situation are important for all the world, except a number of certain countries,' Larijani said in the meeting with his counterpart from Uganda.

Kadaga, for her part, expressed pleasure over holding the conference on Palestine in a suitable manner, saying that his country respects rights of the Palestinian nation and will help them restore their rights.

Stressing the need for establishment of an independent Palestinian nation in the occupied lands, she said that all should uphold the rights of the Palestinian nation.

The Ugandan official also underlined the need for promoting economic cooperation between the two countries, expressing Uganda’s interest to have wide-scale cooperation with Iran in the fields of tourism as well as banking sector.
