Greek parliamentarian calls for expansion of ties with Iran

Athens, July 14, IRNA -- Greek parliament Deputy Speaker in a meeting with Deputy Foreign Minister for Europe-America Affairs Majid Takht-e-Ravanchi here on Thursday expressed his country's desire to expand all-out ties with Iran.

He underlined that the development of ties will be beneficial for both nations.

Considering 4,000 years of relations between Iran and Greece, the country has a great deal of interests to expand its all-out ties with Iran, the MP said.

Takht-e-Ravanchi also expressed Iran's intention to develop relations with Greece and said that unjust and illegitimate imposed sanctions against Iran caused cessation in development of ties between the two countries, which should be compensated for in the post-JCPOA era.

He called holding dialogue between the two parliaments as important and invited the deputy speaker to pay a visit to Iran.

Several members of different commissions of Greece parliament as well as head of parliamentary friendship group were attending the meeting.

Takht-e-Ravanchi left Tehran on Sunday to visit Romania and Greece.

He met with senior diplomats in Romania and arrived in Athens on Wednesday to exchange views and discuss issues of mutual interests with Greek senior officials.

Ravanchi is to depart Athens for Tehran on Thursday evening.
