Iran to sign contract with Russia to build 1400 mw power plant

Tehran, March 14, IRNA – Minister of Energy Hamid Chitchian said on Monday that Iran will sign a contract with Russia to build a thermal power plant with capacity of 1,400 megawatts.

He made the remarks at the end of meeting with Russian Minister of Energy Alexander Novak.
Chitchian said that several agreements have been made in the field of water and electricity.
Meanwhile, he said that in April a meeting will be held in Tbilisi, capital of Georgia, in order to connect electricity networks between Iran, Armenia, Russia and Azerbaijan Republic.
Meanwhile, a joint committee will be established between Iran and Russia to follow up agreements.
Alexander Novak told reporters that after recent visit of President Vladimir Putin to Iran, the grounds for bilateral cooperation on energy have been prepared.
He said that construction of a nuclear power plant, founding an electricity transfer unit system between Russia and Iran through Azerbaijan Republic, Armenia as well as renovation of energy generating units are on the agenda.
Novak underlined exchange of electricity between the two countries, using systems and equipment for transfer of electricity, employing modern technologies and exchange of experience between Iran an Russia.
The aim of Novak visit to Iran is to follow up outcome of joint economic cooperation commission meeting in Moscow last November in light of the agreements made during visit of President Putin to Iran.
