Tehran, Manila hold sixth joint consular meeting

Tehran, Jan 31, IRNA – The sixth consular meeting between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Philippines was held from January 30–31 in Tehran.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Consular, Parliamentary and Expatriates Affairs Hassan Qashqavi said in the meeting that Iran has voiced readiness, particularly after implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), to broaden consular relations with the Philippines in order to ease cooperation between the two nations.
The Philippine deputy foreign minister along with an 8-member delegation representing different organizations were present in the meeting.
In the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on various issues such as easing visa issuance to help expand tourism, commerce, cultural interaction as well as deepening of understanding between the two nations.
They also discussed extradition of prisoners and judicial cooperation, cooperation between the two sides' police force in the campaign against human trafficking, drug smuggling and international organized crimes.
Resolving the issues of Iranian university students in the Philippines and expansion of scientific and cultural cooperation were discussed in the meeting.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides signed relative documents on broadening consular cooperation.
