Lebanon eager to boost economic ties with Iran, says minister

Beirut, Jan 30, IRNA – Lebanon is mulling promotion of economic cooperation with Iran, Lebanese minister of economy and trade Alain Hakim said on Saturday.

'The world view is now focused on Iran,' Alain Hakim told the Islamic Republic News Agency in an interview.
Leading a big trade and business delegation, Hakim is due to travel to Iran tomorrow to participate in the 7th Tehran-Beirut Joint Economic Cooperation Commission.
'I am honored to visit the Islamic Republic during my tenure to lay the cornerstone for economic cooperation between the two countries and establishing new economic ties,' he said.
The Lebanese government enjoys Iranian support to develop national economy of Lebanon, he added.
Iranian government stood by Lebanon in light of longstanding friendship and the Lebanese government stood by Iran during the hard time of the arbitrary sanctions over the nuclear dispute, Hakim said.
During the visit to Iran, the Lebanese delegation will explore ways to boost trade and will put forward proposal to set up free trade zones and enhanced financial and banking cooperation.
