Pakistan urges Riyadh, Tehran to mutually remove reservations

Islamabad, Jan 30, IRNA - Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, in his latest comments on Iran, Saudi Arabia tensions, has urged Riyadh and Tehran to mutually remove their reservations.

According to Pakistan state media, Nawaz Sharif has also reiterated that it was Pakistan's own initiative to defuse tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia.

Last Thursday, Pakistan Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah said that 'Iran and Saudi Arabia have appreciated Pakistan’s initiative to reduce tensions between them and Islamabad is in touch with both'.

Qazi Khalilullah refused to comment on Saudi Foreign Affairs Minister Adel al Jubeir’s recent remarks in which he denied Pakistan’s role as a mediator.

“I will not comment on media reports and speculations but let me reiterate that Pakistan considers efforts for unity among the Muslim Ummah as a sacred duty,” he said.

He added that leaders of both Iran and Saudi Arabia have appreciated Pakistan’s initiative to reduce tensions between them. “We are in touch with both countries and our offices remain available to them,” he said.
