Refugees residing in Iran enjoy best status: UNHCR

Mashad, Jan 25, IRNA - Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Sivanka Dana Pala said on Monday that refugees in Iran have a unique stand and enjoy the best status in the world.

In an exclusive interview with IRNA, he said that UNHCR with cooperation with Iran is now focused on a regional plan with contribution of Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and the UNHCR to prepare grounds for their voluntary return.
UNHCR is to spare no efforts to help refugees administrate their own affairs, such as earning money, health, sanitation and education, he said.
Referring to high number of refugees in Yemen, Syria and Iraq, he said UNHCR is in dire shortage of financial resources which is regarded as a big hurdle in rendering timely services to needy refugees.
Iranian government and its people have generously hosted huge number of refugees for a long time, he said.
