Larijani arrives in Baghdad to attend PUIC

Baghdad, Jan 23, IRNA - Majlis Speaker Ali Larijani arrived in Baghdad at the head of a delegation to attend the 11th conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC).

Upon his arrival at the airport, Larijani and his entourage were received by Iraqi Parliament Speaker Salim al-Jabouri and a number of parliamentarians.

During his visit to the neighboring country, Larijani is to confer with the Iraqi officials on issues of mutual interest as well as regional developments.

The event kicked off on the premises of the Iraqi parliament in Baghdad on Wednesday (January 20) at the level of legislators and will continue by January 25 at the level of parliament speakers.

The gathering will discuss major regional issues, especially terrorism and issues of security concern.

The 11th session of the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Member States is to be attended by 45 Islamic states.

The Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) is composed of the parliaments of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) members states. It was established in Iran on 17 June 1999, with its head office situated in Tehran.

A number of countries in the Persian Gulf region such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain have not partaken which are target of sharp criticism.
