Chinese president willing to open new chapter in ties with Iran

Tehran, Jan 23, IRNA – Visiting Chinese President Xi Jinping said his country is interested in opening of a new chapter in relations with Iran.

President Xi Jinping made the remarks upon arrival here on Friday night.

The Chinese president said Beijing is keen to have a sustainable and long-lasting cooperation with Tehran.

During history, the Chinese and Iranian nations have had friendly relations in the Silk Road, he added.

The Silk Road or Silk Route is an ancient network of trade routes that were central to cultural interaction through regions of Asia connecting the West and East.

Referring to positive cooperation between Beijing and Tehran, the Chinese president said the two also support each other dealing with international and regional issues.

Pointing to the July nuclear deal and announcement of the 'Implementation Day' on January 16 after removal of anti-Iran sanctions, the Chinese president said the two nations are witnessing new opportunity for fostering bilateral ties.

He further hoped his travel to Tehran would lead to strengthening of friendship between the two nations.
