'Iran to carry out drilling projects in region'

Tehran, Jan 20, IRNA – Oil Ministry deputy for research and technology Mohammad Reza Moqaddam said Iran was ready to carry out oil drilling projects in regional countries.

Addressing the national gathering of drilling industries on Wednesday, he said once the sanctions are lifted, Iran will be able to export technical and engineering services to regional countries in drilling oil and gas fields.

He said lifting of sanctions against Iran has opened up a new chapter before the country which is quite different from what it was in the past few years.

Highlighting the capabilities of the Iranian drilling industries, the official noted that though all international drilling companies left Iran after the Islamic Reovlution, the Iranian experts managed to even expand the industry.

Despite the severe sanctions which made import of equipment very difficult for the country, he added, Iranian companies managed to go through the harsh times successfully and continue producing oil and gas.

Had the harsh sanctions Iran endured befallen any of neighboring countries, they could have not been able to withstand, even for one week, the official added.

The deputy minister said that now in the post-sanctions era, Iran companies should eye international presence.
