Chinese president's Tehran visit is strategic: Envoy

Beijing, Jan 15, IRNA – The visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Iran on January 22 in addition to expansion of the existing strategic bilateral ties, is significant for establishment of international and regional peace, stability and security, Iran's ambassador in Beijing said on Friday.

'As two independent and influential countries in the international system, Iran and China share common interests and objectives to expand their cooperation. The upcoming visit can deepen its importance under the current conditions,' Ali-Asghar Khaji told reporters.

'During the two-day visit, the high-ranking officials are scheduled to discuss enhancement of bilateral and strategic ties and exchange views on the latest regional and international developments.'

One of the main issues on the agenda of the visit, he added, is signing the document on strategic partnership which can serve a turning point in the deep-rooted Tehran-Beijing relations.

Documents on hard currency swap, Tehran-Qom-Esfahan express train, Silk Road cooperation, FTZs cooperation, and energy, infrastructure and industrial projects are expected to be signed during the visit, Khaji said.

The visit is to reciprocate President Hassan Rouhani's official visit to China last year, 14 years after former Chinese president Jiang Zemin's trip to Tehran.

In addition to three deputy prime ministers and six ministers, Chinese president is to be accompanied by a large group of Chinese businessmen and media persons.
