Putin, Qatari emir to discuss energy, Middle East issues

Tehran, Jan 15, IRNA -- Russian President Vladimir Putin and Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Thani will discuss energy cooperation and the situation in the Middle East on January 18, the Kremlin said on Friday.

Thani’s visit comes a month after Qatari Foreign Minister Khalid Bin Mohammed Attiyah met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in Moscow to discuss a set of bilateral and international issues, Sputniknews reported.

'During the upcoming meeting the priority will be given to complex strengthening of the Russian-Qatari cooperation in the trade and economic, investment, energy and humanitarian spheres. There will be an exchange of opinions on current issues of the international agenda, first and foremost the situation in the Middle East and North Africa,' the statement read.

Earlier in the day, a Qatari diplomatic source told Sputnik about the emir's upcoming visit, which will be one day long.
