Salehi deplores execution of Shia religious leader by Saudi kingdom

Tehran, Jan 3, IRNA – Vice-President and head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran Ali Akbar Salehi on Sunday deplored killing of Ayatollah Sheikh Nimr Baqer al-Nimr by Saudi regime saying that scholars of the Islamic world should help stop repetition of such inhuman acts.

He said that although perpetrators of such gruesome act have practically shown that they did not learn from history, scholars of the Islamic world should take initiative to stop repetition of such inhuman acts.

'Those who did not learn from history, will not learn from any teacher,' he recalled a Persian poem at the end of his message.

Iran has protested to Saudi government over execution of the prominent religious leader of the Saudi Shia community who was martyred Saturday morning along with 46 others.

Iran said that punishment of the religious leader is blatant violation of Customary International Law.
