Saudi gov't on verge of collapse: Sunni cleric

Mashhad, Razavi Khorasan, Jan 3, IRNA – The Saudi rulers are getting closer to giving way, a Sunni cleric said here Sunday commenting on execution of the prominent Shia religious leader Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr.

Saudi Arabia on Saturday executed Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr, the Shia Muslim cleric known for his sermons criticizing the kingdom’s government and for his support of political protests in the country’s oil-rich Eastern Province.

Talking to IRNA, Molavi Ahmad Sheikh Ahmadi urged the Islamic governments to condemn the Saudi measure which he described as a blatant oppression.

Execution of Sheikh Nimr has exasperated the world Muslims and also has made them angry, he said.

The aim behind such execution is to sow discord among the Islamic sects, he added.
