Al-Mustafa International University condemns Nigeria killing

Qom, Dec 14, IRNA – Al-Mustafa International University (an international seminary for foreign students) in a statement condemned bloody incident and martyrdom of number of Shia Muslims in Nigeria.

The statement said that in recent years some developments have been taking place in Nigeria, in which groups like Bokoharam or either government forces have been involved.

It continued that in the latest catastrophic event, Nigerian army attacked mourning venue of Shia Muslim under pretext of possible assassination of Chief of Staff of Nigerian armed forces and killed tens of Muslims followers of Sheikh Ibrahim al-Zakzaky and put his home on fire and arrested the sheikh and number of followers, including some of his family members.

The statement said that Nigeria is among important member states of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), so it should observe religious slogans and customs as well as respecting human rights.

By expressing deep sorrow for the bloody incident, the seminary urged Nigerian officials to consider the case and determine perpetuators of the incident and also called for Islamic countries' effective and rapid reaction to defend Nigerian Muslims' rights.

Nigerian armed forces attacked on Sunday on the residence of Sheikh al-Zakzaky and a religious site next to his residence.

Several people were killed in the attack.
