According to IRNA correspondent in Baghdad, the US diplomats are seeking to negotiate with Iran's Ambassador to Baghdad Hassan Danaei-far on certain cases in Iraq that the Iranian officials believe are internal affairs of their western neighboring state.
So far the Americans have made their demands through different channels, the report added.
'As far as I know, American officials asked for mediation of a number of prominent Iraqi figures to this end,' a source in an Iraqi political party said on the condition of anonymity.
'Iran's diplomatic initiative in Iraq and the region, its popularity among the Iraqi political parties and tribes as well as Tehran's complete awareness towards diplomatic situation of the region are main reasons' behind the requests' of the American diplomats to communicate with their Iranian counterparts in Iraq, the source added.
The source reiterated that the Western diplomats have acknowledged that Iran is the most active diplomatic representation in Iraq.
'The main reason for Iran's popularity in Iraq is its 'balanced relationship' with all tribes and political spectrum and movements of that country, the source said
Danaei-far regularly holds talks with high-ranking Iraqi officials on current issues and developments in the region and has wide range of communications with different academic and tribal groups in that country.
In a recent interview with IRNA, Danaei-far reiterated: 'We have a good relationship with all diplomats and agents in Iraq and hold systematic meetings' with them.
'But the point is that we basically do not trust the Americans and now we do not feel any necessity for dialogue with them,' the Iranian diplomat concluded.
