Tehran-based Iran Daily newspaper quoted Seyyed Ahmad Alamolhoda, the Friday Prayers Leader of Mashhad, as saying that the deal “should not allow penetration of Western culture into Iran or open presence of McDonald’s in the country.”
This comes after certain media reported that the American food chain is set to open a branch in Tehran.
McDonald’s, however, made a somewhat ambiguous statement on their website, “We have not set a firm date for the development of restaurants in Iran.”
