He made the remarks on Tuesday in a meeting with the visiting UN Secretary General's Special Envoy for Syria Staffan De Mistura.
Mistura referred to the latest developments in Syria and briefed Zarif about UN's latest measures to find a political solution.
Acknowledging Iran's importance in the region, Mistura said he is following a new political solution to solve the Syrian crisis peacefully and democratically.
Iran can play a very constructive and effective role in the process, he added.

Tehran, July 21, IRNA – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined finding a political solution to settle Syrian crisis, saying support for terrorism is the root cause of continuation of crisis and extremism in the region which has led to instability and human tragedy in crisis-stricken countries.
