Winners of the contest were announced Thursday night after a week of intense competition.
The jury panel selected Mehdi Rajabi from Iran as the top winner in the category of memorization, while Abdullah al-Refae from Libya, Asaka Madumu Hassan from Niger, Abubakr Ali Musa from Uganda and Adam Hassan Hussein from Somalia came second to fifth, respectively.
In the recitation category, Iran’s Hassan Danesh came first. Muhammad Abdul Basit Muhammad Abdul Rahman from Egypt was the runner-up while Muhammad Ibrahim from Pakistan, Jafar Hassibuan from Indonesia, and Ahmed Abbas Faraj from Iraq bagged the third to fifth prizes.
The closing ceremony of Iran’s 32nd International Quran Competition will be held in Tehran on Friday.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani will attend the closing ceremony.
The contest kicked off here in the Iranian capital last Friday, May 15.
120 Quran reciters and memorizers from 75 countries vied for the top prizes in the two categories.
