Iran, Syria call for restoration of long-lasting security to region

Tehran, April 29, IRNA – Visiting Syrian Defense Minister Fahd Jassem al-Freij conferred on Wednesday with his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan on expansion of cooperation between the two countries.

In the meeting the two sides called for continued cooperation in the fight against terrorism, extremism and violence and called for establishment of durable security in the region.



Reviewing latest developments in the campaign against terrorism in Syria, the two sides explored ways of uprooting terrorist groups.



Highlighting sensitive and dangerous situation in the region as well as the threats posed by terrorists to the world, they called for bolstering of resistance movement.



The Zionist regime is the root-cause of instability in the region, they said, adding that unity among Islamic states in confronting the Zionist regime is unavoidable.



They also exchanged views on the catastrophic situation in Yemen which is under savage atrocities of the Saudi regime.



They called for immediate halt to military aggression on Yemen and warned against the unpredictable consequences of the Saudi attacks on Yemen.



Syrian Defense Minister Fahd Jassem Al-Freij arrived here on Tuesday at the official invitation of his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan.



He is heading a high-ranking delegation.



After Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha was assassinated in the 2012 Damascus bombing, Freij was appointed by President Bashar al-Assad to succeed Rajiha. Freij took office on July 18, 2012.
