Navy commander: Iran controls five important water passages in world

Tehran, March 10, IRNA - Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said on Tuesday that out of nine important water passages in the world Iran controls five of them.

Sayyari made the remarks in a meeting with Pakistani cadets who are now visiting Iranian naval facilities.

Iran and Pakistan are two neighborly, friendly and Muslim states with close relations, he said, adding that the two sides also share national, religious and cultural commonalties.

Role of Iran and Pakistan in regional developments is of prime importance and it is expected the current visit will lead to expansion of relations between the two sides, he said.

Given their geopolitical situations, the two countries leave impacts on regional developments, he said.

Exchange of visits between the two sides' military officials and instructors and protecting coastal securities in the Sea of Oman can help broaden relations between the two countries, Sayyari said.

Conduction of joint military war games, fight against drug trafficking and piracy can lead to further expansion of cooperation between the two countries, he said.

Global arrogance seeks to imply that the region is insecure to justify its presence in regional waters, he said.

Maintaining the security of free waters is of prime importance for Iran, said the navy commander.
