Tehran, Jan 31, IRNA – Head of Rescue, Task and Research operation at Iran Mountaineering Federation Hamid Masaiyan said on Saturday that a 60-year old hiker was buried under avalanche while climbing Saka peak at carrot desert (Dasht-e Havij), Lavasan district.

Many groups climbed Dasht-e Havij region in Lavasan on Friday and the victim belonged to a 12-member team comprising nine hikers from Karaj city and three logistic workers.

While conquering the peak an avalanche buried the team.

The rescue teams could help 11 members survive, but, failed to rescue one member, he said.

There is a strong possibility that the victim suffered brain hit under the avalanche, Mosayian said.

He said that the rescue teams are currently involved in research operation to find the victim.
