Velayati: Iran-China relations strategic

Tehran, Jan 18, IRNA – Head of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Council Ali-Akbar Velayati said on Sunday that Iran-China relations are strategic and the Islamic Republic of Iran plans to expand ties with the country.

Speaking in a meeting with a Chinese delegation from the country's foreign ministry, Velayati said Iran and China are two powerful countries in Asia, having abundant capacity for expansion of their relations.

He said senior Iranian and Chinese officials are determined to have strategic relations and expand cooperation. Establishment of strategic relations will immune bilateral ties from any damage and foreign interference, he added.

Iran and China are not required to hold lengthy talks for expansion of ties because they share abundant cultural, political and social commonalties, he added.

Revival of the Silk Road will benefit Iran China, Russia and other countries, as a country like Iran, which has 15 neighbors, will provide the chance for extension of the Silk Road, said Velayati, adding that special conditions prevailing in the region is of high significance for many countries because certain western states follow their own illegitimate interests.
