Intelligent filtering to block criminal content of social networks

Ilam, Dec 26, IRNA – Referring to beginning of intelligent filtering of an internet social network Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Minister Mahmoud Va’ezi said here Thursday that the plan is implemented to bock the criminal contents of social networks.

“Implementing the intelligent filtering plan we are trying to block the criminal and unethical contents of the internet sites, while the public will be capable of using the general contents of those sites,” said the ICT minister in a press conference.

He said that the Iranian officials believe that only 10 to 15 percent of the contents of some of the social networks are criminal or unethical and therefore, by implementing the intelligent filtering plan which began a while ago only those negative contents of the social networks will be blocked.

“Presently the intelligent filtering plan is implemented only on one social network in its pilot study phase and this process will continue gradually till implementing the plan on all networks,” said Va’ezi.

He set example of a highway in which the cars are allowed to drive at high speeds, arguing that if a few drivers will violate the laws in such a highway it will not be wise to block the passage of all vehicles in that highway.

The ICT minister said that the 2nd phase of intelligent filtering will be implemented 3 months from now and its 3rd and final phase in 6 months.
