“The people’s presence in elections means individuals’ capability through legal and democratic ways to have greater participation in their country’s decision making,” Said Khatami in a meeting with a group of university professors and students, in response to their expressed concerns about elections in Iran.
He said that we should all try to make the existing democratic ways democratic in real sense of the word, so that they will not merely be titles, but quite meaningful.
“Some friends are probably thinking about solving this problem and God willing they will reach tangible results, so that what our revolution and our laws demanded will be materialized,” added Khatami.
“Different people and groups have various viewpoints, and our argument is that all viewpoints need to be heard, and not those of certain groups, while observing lots of limitations for the others,” he said.
