Iranian, Afghan presidents emphasize continuous friendship of 2 nations

Tehran, Oct 5, IRNA – Presidents of Iran and Afghanistan in a phone talks Sunday emphasized continuous friendship between the two Muslim nations and observation of good neighborly ties.

President Hassan Rouhani announced the Iranian nation’s satisfaction over the establishment of the national unity government in Iran’s neighboring country and asked for both election factions’ continued commitment to the reached agreement, territorial integrity of Afghanistan, and securing the Afghan nation’s interests.

He announced Iran’s stands on Afghanistan's signing of a security agreement and noted that in adopting any measure the people’s interests should be the topmost priority.

“Provision of security is of course the top priority of the Afghan national unity government, but regional cooperation is the main way for encountering terrorism and tribal and ethnic extremism,” added President Rouhani.

The Iranian president highlighted the deep relations between the two countries and expressed hope that interactions with the other countries will not harm the good bilateral ties and the continuation of friendly relations between the two Muslim nations.

President Rouhani at the end prayed for the success and prosperity of the Afghan government and peace and security for that brother and friendly nation.

Afghanistan’s President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai, too, in the phone talk congratulated the Adha Eid to President Rouhani and the Iranian nation.

On signing a security pact with Washington, he ensured the Iranian president that any type of agreement between Afghanistan and the other countries will by no means be hazardous for the Iranian nation.

“As you rightly reiterated, extremism and terrorism are very important threats and we need to act against them gaining assistance from each other and other countries,” he added.

He also ensured President Rouhani that the Afghan officials will remain faithful to their national unity government aimed at restoration of stability in Afghanistan.
