Senior parliamentarians condemn Israeli genocide in Gaza

Tehran, July 22, IRNA -- Senior parliamentarians from ten Muslim states attending the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation Member States’ (PUIC) Presidential Troika in Tehran, have condemned the Zionist regime's atrocities in the Gaza Strip.

They called the crimes of the Zionist Regime in Gaza as 'flagrant manifestation of genocide' of Palestinians.

“The Zionist regime’s military invasion of the Gaza Strip is the flagrant manifestation of genocide, oppression and international destruction of infrastructure, in which hundreds of defenseless civilians including children, women and elderly, have been martyred and thousands of others wounded,” the Parliamentary Union of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation Member States’ (PUIC) Presidential Troika said in a closing statement on Tuesday.

Heads of parliaments and MPs from ten countries, including Syria, Iraq, Turkey, Mali and Sudan, attended the one-day forum in Tehran to discuss Tel Aviv’s recent offensive in Gaza.

The participants said in the statement that “war and anti-humanitarian crimes and mass killings of Palestinians carried out through Israel’s military, ground and naval invasion as well as airstrikes was tantamount to blatant violation of international law.”

They called on the international community to take action to halt Israel’s atrocities.

“The blockade of the Palestinian nation, particularly in the Gaza Strip, is a gross violation of human rights,” the statement further noted, calling for “an immediate removal of the siege and opening of all crossings, in particular the Rafah crossing.”

The parliamentary officials also asked the Egyptian government to accelerate the deployment of humanitarian aid, especially medication, into Gaza through the Rafah crossing.

Over the past 15 days, Israeli warplanes have been hitting numerous sites in the Gaza Strip, demolishing homes and burying families in the rubble. Israeli tanks also began a ground offensive against the impoverished Palestinian land on July 17.

More than 600 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in Tel Aviv’s offensive.

Palestinian resistance fighters have also retaliated against the deadly Israeli attacks by firing a barrage of rockets deep into the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories. They have also killed some 30 Israelis in their retaliatory operations.
